Description:
This patient suffered a torn earlobe. Earlobes can require repair if an earring has been torn through, or if a piercing becomes severely stretched out over time. Patients with earlobe gauges may decide to have them removed which would also necessitate repair. In this case, we repaired the tear by using a z-plasty. By interdigitating healthy tissue, we have a stronger repair than if the tear was simply sewn up. Dr. Schmidt routinely offers re-piercing of a repaired earlobe, anywhere from three to six weeks following the repair.
